This is the latest in Russell’s series of African woman and the grace and beauty they hold. “The images are not political but rather aim to show the pride and strength within their eyes and body language as well as an aesthetic that can be appreciated in someone’s home” Says Russell Smith
The pandemic has represented a change for many and as we are forced into our homes where we are spending more time, Russell’s idea was to balance this potentially difficult time with light and colour and so he has veered away from the moody and dark.
Russell Smith has been shooting professionally for 18 years having worked as an art director in Cape Town and Paris. This art piece was inspired by German artist Olaf Hajek and Tretchiko ́s dark, but colour infused, portraits. The work speaksof the pride and strength of the African woman and Mother Nature, and the beauty of the flowers.
